This tool has two thick Layers of punch support material (gold colored alloy).  A felt strip which can be periodically oiled, lubricates punches and help keep everything in line.

  This tool also has a one piece adjustable back gauge ( optional ), and top hatch covering the punches which is held in two screws, which when removed exposes the head of punches for fast and easy punch removal.  The heads of the punches are also numbered so you can't mix up the order.
